At the end of July the New York Times confirmed that the U.S. government's UFO research program, the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force (UAPTF), is still ongoing despite Pentagon spokespeople saying, as recently as February 2020, that the funding had "dried up" in 2012.
The NY Times report states that the UAPTF plans to release some of its findings publicly twice a year. This comes only a few months after the U.S. Department of Defense officially authorized the release of 3 Navy videos, one taken in November 2004 and the other two in January 2015, which show "unidentified aerial phenomena" -- in other words, UFOs.
The videos, which were leaked previously, are not very exciting, especially for those who have been researching these phenomena for decades (although, based on the audio of the videos, the encounters were exciting for the pilots), but the videos' official release and acknowledgement mark an important first step in the U.S. government's journey to full disclosure of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence.
